Highway 1

Rather quick morning, getting up, packing the last of our stuff, and then checking out. Left the bag in the reception while getting the car at a hotel a few blocks away. The Hertz desk was hidden away on the second floor, so we had to ask our way there.

Really smooth service, and we headed back to the hotel to get the bags and then off out from San Francisco. Going for Highway 1 and then south towards Los Angeles. Magnificent views, curvy roads, sometimes lots of traffic, sometimes road work that took a while to pass.

Stopped at Nepenthe, a nice restaurant with a great view over the ocean, for lunch. Took some time to get a table and then the food. We’ll summarize it with that you paid for the view, not the food, not that it was bad, just not great.

Dad took over the driving after lunch, and I took a nap, managed to doze off for about an hour, even though the curves kept coming. We stopped at a small cafe in a small town to get some coffee and Coke, then kept going to Santa Barbara, where we found a room at Best Western that had a bed and a sofa bed, since we didn’t really wanna share a bed.

Went out for a late dinner, found a nice Italian restaurant a couple of blocks away. Best dry martini in California, according to dad. The food was delicious as well. Ended the evening with a beer close by where I could watch a quarter of the Packers’ pre-season game vs the Texans. Soon the season begins!

Back at the hotel, we made plans for taking a swim in the Pacific Ocean tomorrow, who knows when that opportunity will arise again.
