The alarm went off a 8:15 to go down to the beach and go for a short swim in the Pacific Ocean, who knows when that opportunity will come again. We had to ask a local if we were allowed to go into the water because the whole beach was empty.

It was refreshing but cold. Nice to have done it though! Got back to the hotel for a shower and breakfast before heading out on Highway 1 again with me behind the wheel. Smooth ride, even though we got stuck in traffic a couple of times. I suddenly remembered that we needed to get gas, so we got into a small town to find a gas station, surprisingly hard. A stop at a parking lot and some Google maps later, we found ourselves at a pump. Now, what type of fuel goes into this car? I’m used to the Swedish cars, especially rentals, where they print the type of fuel on the key, the lid, and sometimes on the dashboard. This had nothing, so we went for the regular, cheaper gas. Diesel does sound a bit different, so it shouldn’t be that 😛

Found the hotel and dropped off dad with the bags while I went to top up the tank, and then returned the car at a hotel. Easiest drop-off ever. The valet took the car keys, and I walked away. Hopefully I won’t get an invoice for something afterwards…

During check-in at the hotel, it came up that we ordered a queen-size bed. I’m pretty sure I selected the option with two separate beds, but the confirmation from hotels.com says queen-size, so I can’t complain about the hotel. They seem to be able to fix an extra bed. If they have any last-minute cancellations, we might get another room. We’ll see how that turns out.

Left the hotel to find some lunch and landed at a Brazilian steakhouse. The version where you flip a paper coin on your table, and a chef comes with a big stick of meat and cuts you some more. We just stuck with the extensive salad bar, might come back for dinner sometime.

Bought ourselves a 7-day Metro card to more easily cover the distances of Los Angeles, and then headed over to the Wells Fargo Museum. Not really a museum, more of their version of the history of transportation of goods and people. After the “museum,” we found a cable car, but just a short line. The procedure to load/unload and to collect payment took longer than the ride itself 😛

Onwards to Union Station, which is an impressive building. Nice, large, comfy armchairs, but roped off and only accessible to ticket holders. Found Olvers Street, which celebrated the Spanish heritage. Lots of “quality products” in all of the street shops 🙂 . Finished with some cold beverages before heading back to the hotel.

Some resting in the room, the heat does take its toll, forgot how it felt at the Jamboree… Then off to dinner at Water Grill. A very nice restaurant, not too noisy but busy, it was a Friday evening after all. The look on dad’s face when his appetizer was brought in, let’s just say he had a challenge to eat it all. Luckily, the main course wasn’t that big.

Stopped at some pub on the way back, which seemed to be focused on students as their market segment. For example, the cognac got delivered in a plain water glass from IKEA. Cosy place, though, and after the drinks we headed back to the hotel. Dad is also getting cold, so we aimed for a good night’s sleep to stop it.

Back in the room, we heard some music. We had heard it earlier in the afternoon, and after some investigating, we decided it must have come from our neighbor. We called down to the front desk, and they would look into it. After a few minutes, the music stopped, so I guess they found whoever was playing. I also pulled the plug on the fridge since it, when actively cooling, sounded pretty loud. Not like we need it.
