Woke up with the feeling of a cold. We went out for breakfast, and then I returned to the room for some rest while Dad went out looking for more record shops.
At around 14, he returned, and we set off to Twin Peaks to get a good view of the city. A subway and a bus trip later, we arrived almost at the top. A short walk along some stairs took us up the hill, and the view was magnificent. You could see the whole town, almost down to the airport. Even across the bay, with Oakland on the other side. Great view of Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge, we should have saved the biking for today.
It was quite windy up there, so I pulled out the jacket and put the hat into the bag. I was seriously worried that it would blow off and go down the hill. After a bunch of pictures, we started to walk down the hill, taking a couple of shortcuts that were a bit more adventurous than the road. We made it down in one piece and began looking for lunch. The goal was to, at some point, see the “Painted ladies”, the most photographed buildings in the whole of San Francisco, according to some source.
We found our lunch place, a pub with burgers, and then the buildings, took the pictures, and then headed back to the hotel. I rested a bit more while Dad took a walk. In the evening, we went to what we thought would be a restaurant with a view. We did get a view of the Port of San Francisco building, but on street level, not up on top as expected. However, the food did not disappoint. Terrific meat, great mashed potatoes, and good service. After dessert, we left well fed and happy.
On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at another hotel bar (it’s not very often I ask if the bar is still open…) for the last beer in SF. Tomorrow we’re off to Los Angeles, via Highway 1.
