We didn’t set an alarm this morning, just woke up around 8:30. Headed down to the same diner as I was at yesterday, for breakfast. Cable Car Pancakes tasted as good today. Went down to Union Square to take the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf on the north end of San Francisco. Realized that it was quite foggy and cloudy, so we tabled the idea of biking across the Golden Gate Bridge until tomorrow, in the hope of clearer weather.
Walked along the piers, popped into Hard Rock Café to buy a magnet, found a bar for a cooling beer (Coke), and also an aquarium with the local sea life that can be found outside SF and in the bay.
On our way to Lombard Street (“the crookedest street in the world”), a local suggested we should head up to the Coit Tower instead (we misjudged the distance to the street in question). Roughly 250 steps and a couple of slopes we found the tower and took a spot in the queue. I asked one of the staff members the estimated waiting time, and he said 20-25 minutes. I would say we stood in line for about an hour before we could enter the elevator to the top.
Great view all around, and of course, we took some pictures. We left the tower with the goal of finding lunch/early dinner in Chinatown. Found a place where we ordered a package with five dishes for two people. The soup and the spring rolls didn’t really go for us, but the fried rice, Mongolian bbq, and fried chicken were delicious! After this, we split up. Dad took a cab to find some record store, and I went to the Cable Car Museum. The museum was actually in the same warehouse as the engines that pull the cable for the cable cars. Not a particularly large museum, but interesting. Complex mechanics but simple in thought.
We met up back at the hotel just in time to walk over to Oracle Park where the baseball game San Francisco Giants vs Washington Nationals took place at 18:45. Got there half an hour early to take a walk around the stadium and the variety and amount of different food an beverages that is available is on a whole different level than in Sweden. Our first live baseball game ever, so we had some research to do. Found a guy sitting behind us whom we threw a few questions at.
Giants lost 0-4, and it was an interesting experience. I don’t believe I will start following baseball, it’s too slow. It seems like a very good sport to socialize at, cause you can talk a lot and just take a short break when something actually happens . The game took about 3:15, and we returned to the hotel since it’s an early start tomorrow with the trip to Alcatraz.
