Woke up earlier than I had in mind, but felt pretty fresh anyway. Unpacked the bags and sorted through them (to some extent) so it wouldn’t be such a mess when Dad arrived tonight. Grabbed the laundry and headed out to find a laundromat. Got directions from the reception and found the place. Checking on how payment is done, only quarters… Went to find an ATM since I had no cash at all. After a couple of blocks, I finally found one and headed back. The machine to get change only accepts $5-bills and less. So, off to a small store to buy some sort of breakfast and a bunch of quarters. Got a pack of bananas and some water and got about $3,5 worth of quarters. Didn’t realize how little that was, but the guy in the store made sure I had a couple of 5-bills with me so I could use the change machine.
$1 for soap, $3,5 for the washer, and another $1,5 for the dryer. On the positive side, the washer only took 30 minutes, so the wait was bearable. The dryer took about 20 minutes.
Back to the hotel to stack away the clean clothes and then off to explore San Francisco. Headed due east towards the water and then took off north. After an hour I got hungry and since I’ve seen a diner close to the hotel, my mind was set on a diner lunch. Couldn’t find anyone close to the water, so I started to head back, passing through first what seems to be the “Red light district” of SF, then Chinatown, and finally back on the “home street”.
Got to the diner close to the hotel and had pancakes, bacon, egg, and sausage, tasted really good. After lunch, I headed down to Union Square and found a Macy’s. Walked through the warehouse and did some shopping. Back at the hotel, I had to wait a few minutes because they were just servicing the room.
Took a 1½ hour nap, which felt really good, then a shower and tracked Dad’s flight approach to SFO.
He arrived and, after dumping his stuff in the room, we went out for a late dinner. The two restaurants that I had researched were full, apparently it’s a thing called Sunday dinner… Found an Italian place on the third try and got some food. Took a beer/coke in a hotel bar and planned the tomorrow. Not too late in bed, Dad had a long day.
