Woke up and took the usual shower, it was, however, unusually high temperature, almost warm! Had breakfast with Henrik and then said goodbye since he is leaving really early tomorrow morning, and I’m probably going to bed late.
Day spent posting blog posts (duh), doing inventory, and packing up stuff. At 15 whole team had a meeting where we established that almost everything, considering the teardown was completed. Just some stuff needed moving.
Joe held a little speech, and then everyone got to say a few words about their experience here at the Jamboree. Many emotions were brought up, and it was a nice time.
Broke off for dinner, so I headed back to my tent to change gear in my backpack for the closing ceremony. When I got to the dining hall, they had packed up half of the tables. A bunch of rebellious Swedes put up two tables and got into an argument with the staff that resulted in them being in charge of cleaning and packing them down when they were done. Fair enough, said the Swedes and ate their dinner.
After the team dinner, Roxy and I walked to the closing show, and after some running back and forth, we finally got the whole team together to watch the show.
It got delayed an hour because of a close thunderstorm, but people were surprisingly happy, even though it was the last night, and we’re waiting in the rain.
When it started at about 21, the WOSM secretary general held a speech and then officially closed the Jamboree
Former Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki Moon, followed up by talking about the environment and solidarity. Good message, but a bit too long for my taste.
A couple of other ceremonial stuff, and then first Pantatonix, followed by dancers in dark clothes and lights that turned on/off with the music. They finished off in the most American way you can think of, 20 minutes of fireworks, lasers, and music. Too bad the humidity created so much smoke that big portions of the fireworks were hidden.
After the show, we said our goodbyes. Some of us headed to Chat N’ Chew, which surprisingly had opened again. I bought a small cake, and after midnight, I got a birthday song
We sat and talked, didn’t really wanna leave, but one after another left for bed. We who are staying another day made plans for lunch tomorrow.
Quick shower, again surprisingly high temperature in the water, and then off to bed to write this at two in the morning. In 27 hours, I will board a bus to leave this place, both looking forward to it and already missing it.
