We split into different rooms, girls on the top floor, two guys on the large couch in the living room, and I’m alone on a cot in the basement. Dark, cool, and quiet. That was really nice! I was first in line for the showers this morning, so the alarm went off at seven. Accompanied Michael’s girlfriend to get breakfast, a variety of bagels. Always nice to meet and talk to new people.
Everyone got breakfast and then off to meet the ambassadors for the field trip in Charleston. We started off at The West Virginia State Museum, which describes the evolution of the state from way back, and the state archives. Our guide wanted to tell so much but had so little time, almost like he would burst. Not the most fascinating subject, but when you listen to someone who knows his stuff and has a passion for it, it can be rather interesting anyway.
Off to the office of the regional scout association (council). I understand that there is a bit more money in the BSA than Scouterna (check the pictures). Pizza for lunch, and then they got onto a boat. We were too many so most of the leads, Katri and ,I stayed behind, being able to work a bit on blog posts
When they returned, we went to a place where they made salt. They drill stuff from an ancient lake below ground, and then, through a process, including several manual steps, they create salt.
Bus back to the campsite, a bit nervous cause there were reports of a sewage problem, people were encouraged to lift their stuff up onto the cots, and some even had to evacuate.
Stayed in the trailer for a couple of hours, working on blog posts (a returning theme during these weeks…)
When I returned to my tent, I could confirm that we weren’t affected, and I went off for dinner, then off to Chat N’ Chew, where I met Britt once again. Nice to catch up. I swapped a deck of cards for a complete set of Dutch patches for the Jamboree. I think I got a pretty nice deal.
Back to bed, tomorrow we say farewell to our ambassadors with a reception, it’s been fun to see what they have produced.
